The collection comprises over 400 volumes of Hedin’s major works, including narratives of Hedin’s travels in Tibet, Ladakh, East Turkestan (Xinjiang), Mongolia, Persia and other regions, as well as more than 200 secondary works. The collection also includes Hedin’s main scientific works, maps, political writings and prose. The collection is distinguished by a number of first editions published in English, German and Swedish. Many of the works are extremely rare. The collection also holds bibliographical materials and correspondence as well as selected Hediniana and ephemera. These include colourboard Kaffeekarten (“coffee card”) pictures, photographs, Chinese and Swedish commemorative stamps, and original pen and ink drawings by Hedin, several of which appear in the American edition of his autobiography My Life as an Explorer.

The collection has been painstakingly assembled over several decades by a well-known private European collector based in Asia. The collection is maintained in Hong Kong under strict climate-controlled conditions.
